Spotlight on Salted Surf Co.
We love adding Australian brands to the Spirit People offering. So we are very excited to introduce this up-and-coming, women created brand, Salted Surf Co.
It was first discovered by our curator Emma in June of this year at Xanadu Surf & Yoga Retreat in Lombok, and the love was instant! The fusion of lush, sustainable fabrics with studio-to-surf inspired designs made this activewear brand a must have addition to our online store.
The story behind the brand's Aussie mumpreneurs Tyla and Amelia made for a truly aligned partnership. These like-minded women were brought together some 18 years ago by their love of surfing. Through their active, saltwater loving and adventurous lifestyle they were inspired to create an ethical and sustainable active swimwear range that was comfortable and multipurpose - pieces that you could run, swim, surf and do a little vinyasa flow in. We're super excited to be partnering with this inspiring and conscious label so please read on to learn more about our new favourite brand, Salted Surf Co.
The 'salted' story
Once upon a wave... amidst the endless horizon of azure waters, two kindred spirits found each other through their shared love for surfing. Little did they know that this serendipitous encounter would mark the genesis of an extraordinary odyssey that would forever redefine the world of women's surf lifestyle. Thus, Salted emerged.
Fuelled by a fierce desire to create something extraordinary, these best friends embarked on a mission to infuse inclusivity and empowerment into the fabric of Australian swimwear. They recognized the need for comfortable and versatile pieces that would seamlessly accompany women in their active pursuits—be it running, swimming, surfing, or practicing yoga. Their vision went beyond mere apparel; they aspired to craft a brand that would celebrate the innate beauty and athleticism of women, igniting a spark of confidence and style that transcends the boundaries of the water.
Our swimwear fabric starts its journey as fishing nets, carpet flooring, fabric scraps and plastic from landfills and oceans all over the world. This waste is collected through different initiatives and projects managed by the Healthy Seas https://www.healthyseas.org organisation.
After a regeneration and purification process the nylon waste is recycled right back to its original purity: it’s not just as good as new, but better for our planet. By regenerating waste and not using any virgin materials we are saving finite resources and energy whilst also reducing carbon emissions.
These yarns are then created into fabric using our unique designs – the essence of our collections. Our high quality nylon fabric is made with ECONYL® & REPREVE. Our fabric is buttery soft, but durable: it holds its shape to last.
- ECONYL is 100% regenerated nylon fibres from waste such as fishnets and industrial plastics.
- REPREVE is a performance fibre made from 100% recycled P.E.T such as plastic water bottles.
Many of our items are reversible, which means you get two in one – good for us and great for the planet! We also design our bikinis to mix & match and sell them as separates to ensure you find your ultimate faves. All our items can be used on land and in the water.
Because we aim to be a sustainable company through our products, production and packaging, we only produce a limited quantity at a time. We choose to make only a calculated amount to limit waste during production and avoid all surplus manufacturing. We refuse to contribute to wasted fabric so all excess fabric is used to create sampling for new styles.
Our custom fabrics are digitally printed with OEKO-TEX certified dyes (no nasty or harmful chemicals used that impact the planet or human health).
Digital printing is a greener printing process that enhances colour vibrancy while reducing water usage and fabric wastage from colour bleeds.
