Spirit Sister Series - Katrina from Akaisha

This month we are honoured to be celebrating another of our Spirit Sisters, the beautiful Katrina of Akaisha Healing and Art.

Located on the Gold Coast Australia, this beautiful being is a creative goddess, mamma, artist and mystic who's sacred work includes intuitively weaving magical macrame works of art which also serve as powerful spiritual talismans.

If your'e on the Gold Coast Katrina also offers one on one, multi modality healings and hosts regular transformational "Self Alchemy" Circles and "Meditate and Create" workshops.

Head to her website here to find out more about her delicious offerings, or follow her journey over on instagram here or facebook here. But first, settle in and read our inspiring interview with this gorgeous soul below, where she shares with us all a little of her personal journey, where she's come from, what she's learnt and whats on the horizon for her.

Let’s start with the basics, how old are you? And where did you grow up?

I am 44 years young.  I grew up and lived between Brisbane and Gold Coast until I was 17 years.  At that age I left home and travelled to/lived at various places around Australia and overseas until I settled back on the Gold Coast about 6 years ago.

Where are you currently based?

On the Gold Coast, Australia.

What three words best describe you right now and your Intention/Essence/ offerings?

Re-membering + Re-becoming + Re-creating

Can you share with us a little about your Journey with Yoga and or Spirituality, whatever that means to you?

I went to my first Yoga class when I was 19 years old, purely to start some form of physical exercise.  Instantly, in those first moments on the mat, I realised that Yoga was sooo much more than physical exercise and I was IN TO IT instantly.  I was already quite curious and open to ‘spirituality’, but it was through Yoga that I really began to (re)connect with myself and all the aspects of life that I felt I had been ‘missing’.  So… from that initial moment Yoga became a consistent BIG part of my life.  I regularly attended Yoga classes and I self-studied many of the elements and philosophies of Yoga throughout my twenties.

When I was 29 years, I studied Yoga teacher training whilst I was living overseas with the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres.  I then taught Yoga classes for many years up until I journeyed deeper into motherhood with the birth of my second son.  Simultaneously with his birth I hugely rebirthed myself.  During that rebirth I realised ‘Yoga Teacher’ was no longer me.  I also released my (then) very dogmatic approach to Yoga and began to live MY Yoga.  And that is a whole BIG story 😊

Can you Share with us a little about what led you to begin starting your biz/ sharing your current offerings?

During that same time that I was hugely rebirthing myself following the birth of my second son, I yearned to reconnect with my creative/artist self which was another big ‘aspect of myself’. Pre-motherhood I had always created art (mostly painting). I found in those first few years of mothering babies and toddlers that it was incredibly challenging to get out all the paints and art supplies, only to have to pack them away minutes later.

So, to reconnect with my creative/artist self I started re-discovering and re-membering creative arts that were more baby/toddler friendly. I started drawing instead of painting, and I also connected with macrame. And macrame (what I know as sacred knotting), became a great love, a passion, a purpose.

After many prayers & pleas that looked like “how am I going to be in the world now aside from mum?!”, the concept, name, and entity of my creative business came to me in a meditation in 2015. Heart & Hands – Creations and Healing was born. My heart-made business has evolved since then as I have evolved. My ‘work/service’ has always been purely an extension of Me.

I have recently been living through (another) big ‘re-birthing’ personally, and in this journey I have Realised that I don’t want to carry my work/service around in a separate ‘business container’ anymore. My business IS me! So I am choosing to be in the world unlimited as Me. I Am ‘Ak-ai-sha’… my spiritual name, the mantra for my Spirit/Soul Self, the vibrational notes that encompass All That I Am.

So my offerings are currently the same but ‘Heart & Hands – Creations and Healing’ has evolved into ‘Ak-ai-sha’…

What have been your biggest triumphs?

Of course, birthing and mothering my two sons (suns) Alijah and Abel.  And a big triumph was birthing my business whilst mothering them during the baby/toddler phase!

My ‘biggest triumphs’ feel like all the every-day triumphs.  I feel like the whole human journey is one BIG triumph after another!

What have been your biggest Fears, obstacles and challenges along the way? And what has really helped you in overcoming them?

Oh my!  Where do I start?!  Let’s just say that there have been MANY fears, obstacles and challenges along the way.  What ALWAYS helps me to overcome them is Self-Trust.  And by Self, I mean Higher Self.  Surrendering my human free will to my Divine Will.  Trusting that my (Higher) Self KNOWS and leads My Way.  What helps is to get out of the way.  And what also helps is lots and lots of Self-Love and Self-Soothing.

What lessons are you most grateful for in life and in what you do?

Learning to let go of who I ‘should’ be, and be who I Am.

What advice would you give another facing a similar challenge?

Trust that YOU have designed yourself for whatever you are to do/be here in this life.  Whatever you truly are to do/be, you will know how to do/be it.  It will feel natural to you.  A natural talent, a natural ability, a natural state of being.  Trust YOU.  Be Who You Are.

What are the biggest challenges you face now? either personally or in what you do? or both?

Recently I have lived through soooooooo much un-tethering, un-conditioning, un-learning, EMPTYING.  Personally, and in my ‘business’ (my business is me!).

So right now… I feel I have landed in quite an empty spacious space, which feels magnificent and full of limitless potential for my NEW.  But in that limitless potential, where I have so many visions/ideas/dreams swirling around, I can tend to feel paralysed to CHOOSE & ACT on something, one thing.  So, the biggest challenge I am facing right now is to get out of paralysed inertia, to take action in one direction, any direction.  That is always my biggest challenge as a creative person wanting to create IT ALL.

We all deal with fears and insecurities; how do you combat overwhelm and self-doubt?

Moment by moment doing of whatever I have to do to overcome the fears, insecurities, and self-doubt.  What I pull out of my Self-Love toolbox is different in each moment.

What do you currently most crave in life and in what you do?

More time.  I know time is ‘an illusion’, but I always crave more time.

What’s next for you, any exciting plans on the horizon that you would like to share?

There is something really big happening for me and my ‘business’ which is about to be announced on the horizon!  This is actually the first time I have spoken/written this ‘publicly’!  I am in the process of letting go of my business ‘container/name’:  Heart & Hands – Creations and Healing.  Through my current journey of Re-membering + Re-becoming + Re-creating, I am choosing to be in the world as ‘Ak-ai-sha’.  Me.  MySelf.  I will share more about what ‘Ak-ai-sha’ means as it all is announced on the horizon.  My services/offerings will continue to be as they currently are, and will continue to evolve as I evolve.

I have simply realised that my ‘ole business container/name no longer fits – and that to simply grandly be ‘Ak-ai-sha’ in the world feels limitless and free facing forward.

Spirit Rituals, can you share with us any practices or routines that you do to keep you feeling inspired, grounded and connected?

I don’t do routine, but I ‘ritualise’ much in my life.  I create simple but sacred ritual so that I may do the every-day-mundane in a way that feels Divine and in adoration of life.

I am devoted to a morning practice, which always has me connecting with the Sun, connecting with the Earth, and being with my Self in breath and silence and whatever else unfolds to honour the new dawn, a new day.

Who have been the most influential or inspirational people/ teachers/ Books or places on your path? and why?

I truly can’t think of the ‘most’.  There has been so many.  In this moment I can’t put any above the other…

What does #iamspirit mean to you?
